honey badger don’t care…

And I don’t care either. About my crappy iPhone FO pictures and the fact that the pattern got eaten up my yarn, that is.

I got me some Honey Badgers!

Please ignore the abundant animal hair. The fur-children like to contribute to my knitting, too. In the above photo the stripes look a little more even than they really are. Each sock came out quite differently. I’ve seen this in other people’s projects frequently, though I don’t think I’ve ever experienced it this noticeably in my own BMFA projects.

As you can see, both socks stripes rather evenly but the second one came out significantly lighter. Interesting. The details:

Pattern: Honey Badger by Carrie at IrishGirlieKnits
Yarn: Socks That Rock Lightweight in a Rare Gems I picked up a few years back at Stitches, I think
Needles: US 2, worked magic loop
Size: Medium, reduced to 31 stitches on the soles of the feet

I like this pattern a lot and was very pleased that it was chosen as one of the Q4 KAL patterns on the Socks that Rawk group on Ravelry. It’s been a long time since I had the time to actually finish a pair for one of the KAL’s, too, so this was a double treat. They fit great, the pattern was fun and quick, and I love the color of the yarn. My only beef is that the pattern gets lost in the striping. I noticed it early on but was too enraptured in knitting the project to fool with trying to control the color. Maybe one day another pair in a solid yarn will find it’s way onto my needles. ‘Til then, I think these are just fine.

some creativity for a little lovin’

Posted on December 6th, 2011 by Lindsay under Uncategorized.

My boyfriend has been working out of town for the past few months and, while the stoic side of me hates to admit it, sometimes I miss him a lot. Neither of us could exactly be described as the lovey-dovey sort, but from time to time a little leaks out.
I came across a pattern for these little hearts while perusing my ‘friend activity’ list and my plan was hatched. Knit a heart, toss it in his bag before he left and leave it for him to find sometime during the week. Easy-peasy, right?
No. At least not when you start your plan at midnight in a cheap hotel with minimal supplies. It’s a good thing I’m crafty.
Step 1: Knit a heart out some conveniently stashed, Army-guy friendly camo type yarn. In this case, that multi-green Manos wool.

Step 2: Make use of some amenities

The “hot” water in the room was lukewarm at best, and this coffee pot really did the trick.
Step 3: Agitate

And repeat in ice bucket…

Step 4: Dry for about a week : /

Voila! A little felted heart

I don’t know how to use links on my phone, but if you want the pattern info I’ll be putting it on my Ravelry page shortly.
